In a major breakthrough for the country’s export sector, Pakistan-origin seafood has officially entered European supermarket chains, proving its ability to meet the European Union’s exceptionally strict food safety and quality benchmarks.
The achievement was showcased during a visit by a high-level Chinese delegation to Sea Green Enterprises. Speaking at the event, CEO Asim Abrar marked the retail debut as a defining moment for the domestic seafood trade, confirming that locally processed products can seamlessly compete on the global stage when backed by proper handling, processing, and packaging standards.
Abrar pointed out that Pakistan’s fisheries hold massive untapped export potential. With targeted investments in modern processing facilities, upgraded infrastructure, and value-added production, the sector could realistically scale its export revenues to between $1 billion and $2 billion. He also commended the Marine Fisheries Department and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs for their essential regulatory support in unlocking these highly monitored international supply chains.
Positioned as a success story for the “Made in Pakistan” brand, this landmark entry into premium retail channels is expected to spur further industry modernization, attract crucial investment, and establish Pakistan as a key player in the global seafood market.
