Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening agricultural ties, focusing on boosting Pakistani food exports and enhancing regional food security. Building on decades of strong political and economic ties, the traditional partners are actively transitioning their relationship toward targeted investment, technology transfer, and private-sector collaboration.
During high-level talks in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley outlined key strategic priorities for the sector:
- Export Expansion: Accelerating the volume of high-value Pakistani agricultural and livestock products entering Saudi markets.
- Agritech & Productivity: Deploying modern farming technologies, advancing joint research and development, and modernizing irrigation systems to increase crop yields.
- Water Resource Management: Implementing efficient water-use strategies to counter climate vulnerability and build sustainable supply chains.
- Bilateral Investment: Exploring reciprocal investment opportunities in food processing, livestock, and modern agricultural infrastructure.
To capitalize on these discussions, Pakistan plans to dispatch a delegation of agricultural experts to Riyadh. This initiative aligns directly with Pakistan’s drive to attract foreign investment for sector modernization, while supporting Saudi Arabia’s broader economic diversification and long-term food security goals. Both nations aim to convert their historic political alliance into a robust, mutually beneficial commercial partnership.
