Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Robert Simpson, Deputy Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Rebekah Bell, FAO Representative, to discuss strategies for strengthening cooperation in Pakistan’s agricultural sector.

The high-level discussions centered on enhancing sustainable agrifood systems, expanding agricultural development, and improving food security and support for local farming communities.

Key Priorities for Agricultural Growth

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain underscored the critical role of international partnerships in tackling emerging agricultural challenges and outlined several strategic focus areas:

  • Knowledge-Sharing & Innovation: Emphasizing technical cooperation, research, and modern technology to boost overall agricultural productivity and systemic resilience.
  • Climate-Smart Farming: Expanding participation in FAO initiatives that promote sustainable, climate-resilient practices tailored to Pakistan’s local environment.
  • Value-Chain Enhancement: Leveraging modern technologies, improved food processing techniques, and youth-led initiatives to unlock new opportunities throughout the agricultural value chain.
  • Institutional Linkages: Building stronger institutional frameworks to adapt global best practices and technical expertise into targeted local solutions.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Reiterating Pakistan’s long-standing relationship with the FAO, the Minister expressed optimism that continued collaboration will drive sustainable growth, fortify food security, and elevate livelihoods across farming communities nationwide.
