The federal government has stepped up efforts to fast-track national wheat imports, directing the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to proceed immediately with procuring the remaining 185,000 tonnes required by Sindh for Food Year 2026–27.
The directive was issued during the seventh meeting of the Steering Committee on Wheat Imports, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as part of a broader strategy to ensure adequate national grain reserves and keep consumer prices stable.

- Fast-Tracking Bids: The Steering Committee instructed the TCP to accept the lowest bid or bids to finalize procurement for Sindh’s remaining demand without delay.
- Financial & Tripartite Commitments: Deputy PM Ishaq Dar directed the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to promptly arrange necessary funds and complete tripartite agreements with the TCP to streamline execution.
- Consumer Price Stability: The federal government emphasized that these strategic imports aim to guarantee uninterrupted domestic supply chains and cushion consumers against price volatility.
