Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation in agriculture, livestock, food security, trade, and technology transfer.
Key areas of discussion and strategic focus include:
- Agricultural Technology and Machinery: Pakistan expressed readiness to share technical expertise in crop productivity, seed development, climate-resilient farming, modern irrigation, and agro-processing. The Minister highlighted opportunities to export Pakistani agricultural machinery and tractors to Ethiopia.
- Livestock Development: Both nations explored joint initiatives in animal breeding, veterinary care, disease management, feed production, and modernizing dairy and meat supply chains.
- Trade and Market Access: Discussions centered on boosting agricultural trade by aligning sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) standards, as well as fostering business-to-business linkages and joint ventures.
- Institutional Framework: To drive actionable outcomes, the meeting emphasized Pakistan’s proposal to form a Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Livestock to oversee technical exchanges and project implementation.
Ambassador Dr. Oba welcomed Pakistan’s initiatives and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to collaborate on trade, technology, and investment. Both sides agreed to transition from general agreements to project-driven, result-oriented partnerships.
