In a major commitment to sustainable agriculture, supermarket giant Aldi has partnered with leading meat processor ABP to launch ‘Grounded in Goodness’—a landmark initiative designed to help British beef farmers adopt eco-friendly farming practices while providing them with crucial financial security.

The scheme will connect around 1,000 beef farmers across England, Scotland, and Wales, encouraging on-farm actions tailored around three core pillars: soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare.

Financial Premiums and Support for Farmers

To help producers navigate rising input costs, unpredictable climate pressures, and shifting agricultural subsidy models, the program combines financial incentives with technical guidance:

  • Premium Payments: Participating farmers will earn financial top-ups on top of standard market prices for meeting sustainability benchmarks.
  • Expert Advisory Services: Access to specialized agronomic advice, data-backed tools, and peer-to-peer learning networks.
  • Horizon Farmers Pilot: A pioneer group of progressive “Horizon Farmers” will test and refine new approaches alongside Aldi and ABP before scaling them across the wider supply chain.

“Grounded in Goodness is designed to provide practical support and financial certainty that helps farmers invest in their businesses for the long term. By investing in the farmers who supply us, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient British beef supply chain.”

— Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK

Industry Support & Rollout Timeline

The initiative has received strong backing from the National Farmers’ Union (NFU), which praised the scheme for aligning environmental goals with commercial profitability for British livestock producers.

  • Recruitment: Begins this month across the UK.
  • First Cohort: Expected to be fully onboarded by Spring 2027.

NFU President Tom Bradshaw welcomed the long-term investment, noting that rewarding environmentally beneficial practices provides a vital incentive for sustainable, profitable beef production in the domestic market.
